What do you learn in the beginner suncatcher class?

The beginnger suncatcher class teaches the very basics of crafting with glass: pattern use, glass cutting, edge grinding, copper foiling, soldering, cleaning, patina application, and polishing.

Do I need stained glass experience to take the class?

No prior experience is required for the beginner suncatcher class. It is designed as an approachable introduction to working with stained glass for all skill levels.

Where are classes located?

Classes are held at various locations in Butler County, KY and surrounding counties. Please read the event description carefully before registering.

What is the class fee?

Classes held in Butler County, KY are $40 per person. Classes held outside of Butler County will vary depending on the distance. All pricing is subject to change, so please read the event description carefully.

Aside from cleaners, we work with a few different chemicals that might stain or otherwise damage clothing. It's recommended that you wear clothing you don't mind getting messy.Long hair should be pulled away from the face and secured to prevent damage to the hair and to keep your eyesight clear for soldering work.It is HIGHLY recommended that you wear pants, preferrably denim, to protect your legs. Molten solder has a tendency to roll and will stick to skin of your legs, causing burns.

YES! If you are within a 50 mile radius of Butler County, KY and would like to host a class, please reach out to Marlena at silvercityglassky@gmail.com. Classes hosted outside of BC require a non-refundable deposit of $200 and at least three weeks notice.

Suncatcher Class

In our suncatcher class you'll learn the basics of creating with stained glass and craft a small suncatcher to take home. Every student is provided with all necessary materials and a pre-cut, pre-ground glass kit. Each class is scheduled under a specific pattern. For example, one class may create hummingbirds and another may create pumpkins.

Class begins with a brief demonstration on pattern selection, glass cutting, and glass grinding. Next is the fun part...working on your kit! Your tasks will be to apply copper foil to the edges of each glass pieces, solder it together, then apply the finishing touches. At the end, you'll leave with your creation and just maybe a newfound love for stained glass!

Stained glass suncatchers

Adult Class

For ages 18+, our adult class brings the basics of creating with stained glass. With beginner-friendly patterns, this class is suitable for all skill levels!

Stained glass suncatchers

Teen Class

For ages 14-17, available upon request. Due to the use of chemicals, high heat, and toxic fumes, students must have a legal parent or guardian co-sign the liability waiver. Guardians are not required to stay for the duration of class.

Acrylic Suncatcher Painting Class

Kids' Class

For ages 3-13, plus one adult per child.

Our kids' class is structured similarly to the adult & teen classes to give them the full experience! Each child and their adult will paint acrylic suncatcher wind chimes, complete with decorative beads!
